In September 2020, Hurricane Sally wreaked havoc on Pensacola NAS, unleashing sustained 110 mph winds and record-breaking rainfall. This resulted in extensive flooding and wind damage throughout the base, affecting numerous historic buildings that now required substantial restoration and renovation.
Within the framework of Package 7B, The Korte Company took on the formidable task of rejuvenating approximately 333,291 square feet of these structures. This encompassed five buildings, originally constructed between the 1930s and the 1960s.
Given that the majority of these buildings were partially or fully occupied throughout the multi-phased renovation process, meticulous planning was crucial to minimize disruptions for both residents and staff.
Due to the historical significance of these structures, The Korte Company collaborated closely with the Florida State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) and the Base Cultural Resources Representative to ensure strict adherence to and approval of all relevant guidelines.
The primary focus of this project revolved around addressing storm-related issues, encompassing structural damage, alarm systems, electrical systems, mold remediation, roof repair and replacement, asbestos remediation, wall repairs, floor repairs, ceiling repairs, selective demolition, lead paint management, exterior and interior trim repairs, window repairs, column replacement, duct repairs, insulation replacement, sitework, site communications repairs and new construction.
