The Korte Company was awarded the Design-Build tenant improvement for 8th Avenue’s fruit and nut manufacturing plant relocating from Burnaby, Canada. The company 8th Avenue Food & Provisions was founded in 1979 as Golden Boy Foods. Today, they are a leading manufacturer, marketer and distributor of private brand and branded food products. They supply organic and conventional dried fruit and nuts to leading grocery retailers, top food service distributors and industrial bakeries across North America.
The project started as an existing open warehouse that needed to be transformed into a food-grade production and packaging facility. The 260,000 square foot warehouse holds two cooler areas, a nut roasting and frying area, raw storage, fruit packing, nut packing, staging and shipping, as well as offices, quality and R&D labs, a sanitation room, a breakroom and restrooms with locker areas. The warehouse area ceiling height is 36’ with racking to 34’ and 30 dock areas.
Korte installed 200,000 square feet of insulated metal panels and added additional roof support and footings to withstand the weight of the panels.
