The WSP-Korte Joint Venture Team worked closely with the USPS to convert an existing building into a 337,655-square-foot United States Postal Service Mail Processing Facility in Memphis, Tennessee.
The comprehensive design-build renovation included 52 new loading docks. Loading dock equipment and a wet pipe fire protection system meeting NFPA 13 specifications were installed. Existing HVAC systems were repurposed, with added computer room air conditioning. Process mechanical equipment included air compressors and a compressed air piping system.
Foundation work involved replacing the building slab to accommodate 10 new dock leveler pits. Finishes included metal stud and gypsum board partitions, flooring, ceilings, painting, casework, floor coatings and striping, doors, and windows.
Interior renovations included mail processing space, a computer room, secure employee entry and ADA ramp, lunchroom, break room, administrative spaces, and building support spaces.
Electrical expansion involved coordinating with local utility companies to enlarge the transformer and install primary and secondary power feeders, distribution switchboards, panel boards, transformers, conduits, wiring, and connections. Interior lighting comprised LED fixtures.
Low voltage systems installed included structured cabling, wireless access points, EPACS security system, paging system, CCTV and fire alarm system.
Our team achieved early occupancy thanks to efficient planning and execution.
Despite a 16-month deadline, including requested early occupancy, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule. A total of 25,150 manhours were expended over multiple shifts to accomplish the early completion schedule of 14 months.
