The Korte Company was awarded the Design-Build 145,922-square-foot multi-story Consolidated Maintenance Facility at Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA, for the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. The facility will house the Flight Test Squadron for GBSD Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), accommodating 250 personnel.
It includes an Advanced Program Office/Security Program Office area meeting special access facility requirements, with offices, conference rooms, laboratories, storage, and vehicle structures. Systems include secure/non-secure router communications, electrical/mechanical services, water/sewer, fire protection, lightning protection, security systems, and overhead cranes for hardware transport.
The facility will store and maintain ICBM vehicles and comply with Intelligence Community Directive 705 standards for secure storage. Site improvements include clearing, grading, paving, walkways, and storm drainage. Construction will follow Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria and antiterrorism/force protection standards.
Sustainable practices will be integrated, including life-cycle cost analyses for energy systems and renewable energy options.
The project involves designing and constructing a secure two-story CMF for Payload Transporter and Transporter Erector maintenance, storage, laboratories, and administrative spaces for departments including Operations, Command Suite, APO, Guidance Lab, KDC Vault (CODES), Launch Support, Missile Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Resource Test, and Technical Engineering.
