This Design-Build project consisted of new construction of a two-story, 50,000-square-foot Troop and Family Medical Clinic located in the Old Post Historic Area on Ft. Bragg. The team worked closely with base cultural resources, base architecture, the State Historic Preservation Office and end users to create a solution that blended into the existing historic environment while maintaining its own identity.
The two-story, steel-framed medical clinic includes 15 private offices, eight open cubicle areas, four medical home team rooms and three lab spaces. The full masonry exterior features a stone veneer with brick colors and patterns to complement the existing historic buildings and follow Fort Bragg’s design guides. Air and vapor retarders were carefully detailed and installed to provide a high-performance insulated wall system.
Building systems include a high-efficiency four-pipe HVAC system, nurse call system, telecommunications systems, and fire detection and alarm/mass notification systems with audible/visual notification appliances that comply with National Fire Protection Association 72 and Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines for Building and Facilities. There is an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for the pharmacy.
The building services including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and fire protection were designed and installed to accommodate clinical functions and comply with governmental security requirements. An integrated rainwater harvesting system offsets domestic water needs. In addition, a solar hot water system provides redundant low-cost hot water.
The project included demolition and removal of several vintage wood buildings and the surrounding pavement and utilities along with the required abatement of the associated Asbestos Containing Materials. Sitework included grading and drainage, landscaping, an asphalt parking lot to accommodate 212 cars and underground stormwater detention.
