Parkview Memorial Hospital, located in Wheeler, Texas, is a 15-bed critical access hospital with a small assisted living unit attached. The hospital, a community landmark, was originally constructed in 1964 and remodeled in 1984. Since opening, the Parkview has been serving the community and its residents as the primary healthcare facility.
The Korte Company partnered with the Parkview board, hospital staff and the city of Wheeler to deliver a comprehensive renovation of the existing facility and site.
The hospital additions and improvements included a new dedicated emergency department entrance with separate ambulance access, six new exam rooms, including a new major case room, a new physical therapy/rehabilitation services department as well as a new seven-bed assisted living unit, new lobby, patient reception area, a new main hospital entrance and outpatient service area.
Modifications included an extensive renovation of the existing skilled nursing patient areas, an expanded sprinkler system, and an extensive replacement of dated mechanical and electrical systems to bring multiple areas of the existing hospital building into compliance with today’s demanding hospital life safety and infection control standards. In addition, the existing medical gas system was repaired and expanded.
The scope of work also included a sophisticated, state-of-the-art nurse call and patient emergency response system as well as a hospital-wide telemetry and patient monitoring systems.
