“This facility is magnificent,” said John Knapp, Virginia state director for U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, who served in the Army Reserve. “When a young soldier walks into a facility like this, he walks in feeling like, ‘The Army cares about me.’”
The complex consists of a 33,170-square-foot training center, 7,526-square-foot organizational maintenance shop and 4,961-square-foot, unheated storage building. It received U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold certification and includes a geothermal HVAC system, tankless hot water heating and LED interior lighting.
“This is a unique facility in the 99th RSC’s 13-state region, in that it is the only example of geothermal energy that we have,” Maj. Gen. William D. Razz Waff said.
The 600-member Army Reserve Center Training Building incorporates unit storage and unheated storage functions, an Organizational Maintenance Shop and wash rack. These facilities are complete with required utilities, storm drainage and water quality controls, communications, electric, HVAC, fire protection and alarm systems, an Intrusion Detection System (IDS), force protection measures, and site improvements.
Interior finishes that are sustainable, easy to maintain and light in color — providing functional, aesthetically pleasing environments. Natural daylighting is in as many interior spaces as possible given plan configurations, with colors and finishes coordinated to create a cohesive design.
