The Korte Company delivered a 211-member Army Reserve Center (ARC) for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Rockford, Illinois. The Design-Build 38,880-square-foot project consisted of a combined training center, Organizational Maintenance Shop (OMS), and an Unheated Storage Building complete with utilities, Privately-Owned Vehicle Parking, Military Equipment Parking, Force Protection measures, and associated site improvements.
The combined training center and OMS form the centerpiece of the ARC campus. Each elevation takes full advantage of the features provided by the site, and large windows at key areas allow abundant natural light to permeate interior spaces. The overall building massing and materials are reflective of the adjacent light industrial and residential areas, incorporating brick masonry and pitched rooflines. The exterior color scheme establishes a complementary neutral color palette within the rust color scheme to provide continuity between interior and exterior spaces.
The site design meets all applicable Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection requirements, including building setbacks and standoff distances. Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection measures include blast-resistant windows and frames, a card-reader security system, and a gate to prevent access to unauthorized areas.
The project achieved LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
