The 34,086-square-foot, three-story dormitory was the first of two identical facilities constructed on the base. The dorm at Cannon Air Force Base features a centralized community multipurpose room/bulk storage/mailbox facility with easy access to all of the dorms.
Stairs are provided on each end of a central balcony for convenient access to all three dormitory levels and conform to the required exiting and life safety requirements of the building code. The central balcony is designed to maximize light into the interior courtyard and into the dorm bedrooms.
The center main entry is accentuated with a brick colonnade and stucco arched openings to provide an inviting entrance. Large expanses of flat exterior walls have been broken up into smaller massing elements and have varied the heights of the masonry base where the wall recesses. These wall enhancements, along with the roof shade and shadow, add visual interest and are inviting to the user from both a street view and building entrance approach.
