Hortica is a provider of insurance to greenhouse owners and other horticultural businesses. Hortica selected The Korte Company to design and build its new two-story corporate headquarters in Edwardsville, Illinois. Two-thirds of the building is used by the insurance company, and the remaining one-third of the building is used for executive offices and the company’s other subsidiaries.
The complex features a central atrium concept with two flanking wings of office space. We built the office wings out of Tilt-Up concrete panels with punched windows. And the two-story open atrium is enclosed by a glass curtain wall at both front and back and is topped off with a greenhouse design reflecting Hortica’s core business. The glazed center atrium effect allows for a clear view from the entry through the building to the 3.5-acre lake behind, accented with a 40-foot geyser.
