The Korte Company was awarded the Naval Station Newport Central Lodging facility, a 122,000-square-foot Design-Build full-service hotel that serves as the main check-in point for all base lodging at the Naval Station Newport (NAVSTA Newport) location.
The Navy Gateway Inn and Suites (NGIS) is the first facility of its kind, designed and constructed under the new Unified Facilities Criteria Lodging Facilities and established as the flagship model for the NGIS brand for future lodging facilities.
The basis of design was considered a 0% design, a directive through NGIS to provide the Design-Build team with maximum freedom to present a design and technical solution that optimized leading trends and innovations within the hospitality industry as they applied to the priorities and goals of the NGIS brand, project program and project site.
The 200-room facility also accommodates the majority of administrative, staff training, maintenance, and guest services functions and includes an industrial laundry facility.
Additionally, the seven-story NGIS hotel incorporates a total of 194 guestrooms and six suites. It also contains the front of house, floor support, back of house and administrative areas. The scope of work included the construction of a parking area on the adjacent Lawrence Field, designed for 175 vehicles.
In addition, the project earned LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and was designed to meet or exceed Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection standards.
We’ve delivered more than 90 projects to LEED Certification standards. Learn more about green construction at The Korte Company.
