The Design-Build of the Kaneohe Bay Officers Club was awarded under an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract by the Department of the Army through its Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department.
Since the original building was designed and built in 1941, historic preservation issues were extremely important. The Korte Company team worked meticulously to preserve the exposed concrete ceilings and beams in portions of the dining area.
To restore the look of the main entrance as originally designed, we reconfigured the entrance area and provided raised panel doors. We designed the interior of the club with finishes and colors evocative of the Hawaiian Islands. And we complimented the club’s custom-patterned carpet with Koa wood trim and etched glass panels. Other work included the renovation of restrooms, a pool area and providing handicapped accessibility to all areas.
After the work began, Morale, Welfare and Recreation services made significant changes to the original scope of the project. Through team coordination and an efficient job site, we accommodated all changes without increasing the duration of the construction schedule. The end result was another job delivered, on time and on budget.
