The Korte Company provided Design-Build services for the multi-aircraft hangar for the 76th Aircraft Maintenance Group at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. The hangar houses three KC-135’s, three E-3’s, two B-52’s, two B-1B’s, and two Airbus A330’s.
The 164,443-square-foot facility performs a number of services, including programmed depot maintenance for a variety of aircraft. The hangar includes open and private offices, administration areas, training areas, conference rooms, a breakroom, latrine/shower areas, open bay work area, technical order library and building utility rooms.
The administration structure is constructed of two-story masonry construction and is located on the second floor between the hangar bays. The ground floor function of the administration wing includes a break room, offices, and support areas. Locker rooms and support rooms are located adjacent to the multi-bay along the east side.
A total of 106,800 square feet of Portland cement airfield pavement was placed as a part of this contract. Existing pavement was removed and recycled. The pavement was cut in two locations to mitigate fracturing. The new pavement section was 15 inches of Portland cement concrete over a 10-inch asphaltic concrete drainage layer, which overlaid geotextile separator fabric with a 10-inch lime-stabilized subgrade.
