The Korte Company designs and builds to the highest military standards of quality. The Nellis Air Force Base Dormitory project is a perfect example.
We partnered with Macnak construction to form MACNAK Korte Team LLC, and earned a selection by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District to design and construct a three-story, 240-person dormitory on Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
The 85,250-square-foot facility includes 60 four-bedroom units, each with its own kitchen, laundry and living room space. The project also includes recreational grounds, landscaping, parking and utilities. And this is a green build, as we’re designing and building this dorm to USGBC LEED Silver certification standards.
The building’s superstructure is a combination of concrete masonry block walls and hollow core, precast concrete planks, which substantially reduces the pressures of the building. The exterior is a highly aesthetic, low-maintenance durable building envelope.
Two occupied dormitories were demolished after the new facility was completed. A complex phased construction schedule was required to ensure the occupants were able to remain in the existing dorms.
