The Korte Company was awarded the Design-Build Recruit Reconditioning Center and Barracks renovation project. The new 64,949-square-foot facility serves Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island’s Special Training Company (STC) and supports its mission and operations.
Additionally, the new MCRD facility houses the STC Headquarters, HQ offices and operations, Recruit Reconditioning Center and Recruit Barracks for 320 recruits, staff and base personnel.
The initial stages of the construction schedule included the selective demolition of an existing 56,000-square-foot barracks building and two of its four wings, which were originally constructed in 1987. The remaining two wings underwent an extensive 23,000-square-foot renovation to facilitate new squad bays.
Three distinct entry points define the new space including the HQ Officer/Visitor Entry, RRC Medical Entry and Recruits RB Squad Check-in. The HQ component includes a dedication area, commander’s office, company private offices and conference/break room. The RRC combines Sports Medicine and Recruit Training (SMART), and Sport Medicine and Injury Prevention (SMIP) along with several provider office/exam rooms, treatment rooms, cast/ultrasound room, whirlpool room, and waiting/training room.
Each Squad Bay can accommodate 80 recruits and has a drill instructor hut with a bunkhouse and bathroom, squad bay head, laundry, storage and company shared offices.
