This Design-Build project consists of a 35,735-square-foot, single-story, stand-alone medical and dental clinic. It complements the established architectural theme by leveraging the existing modern adobe vocabulary established on the White Sands Missile Range.
Primary facilities include primary care, physical rehabilitation, optometry, behavioral health, dental clinic, preventive medicine, lab, pharmacy and radiology. Support facilities include site development, storm drainage, utilities, parking, access roads and information systems. The articulated building floor plan was developed to best fit the site and acts as a visual cue to the primary entry point of the facility.
The interior of the facility reinforces the modern New Mexico architectural theme expressed in the exterior architecture, promoting a professional environment while complying with the requirements of the Healthcare Facility Planning Agency Environment of Care. Materials and finishes were selected based on their appropriateness for a health care facility and provide a welcoming environment for patients, office staff and visitors.
Our project team planned this project for the requested full 20% future growth from both wings, resulting in a total potential available growth allowable of 40% without the requirement to harden or change the parking or infrastructure.
The building systems were designed to maximize energy performance. Four pipe variable air volume HVAC systems provide heating, cooling and ventilation. We provided 97% efficiency condensing hot water boilers and variable flow chillers. Fluorescent and LED lighting fixtures, coupled with a 27 kW photovoltaic array and solar thermal hot water system drastically reduce energy consumption 40% below the ASHRAT 90.1 standard.
The project was certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council and was designed to comply with Unified Facilities Criteria 4-010-01 and many other military design standards.
