Founded in 1985, Sundance Helicopter originally began offering helicopter tours of the Las Vegas strip from what is now the Las Vegas Convention Center. By 1994, the company had expanded to include other services such as film production and air support for the Department of Defense. Today, Sundance Helicopters continues to expand its services as well as its fleet.
As part of that expansion, The Korte Company was selected to help modernize the Las Vegas headquarters. The existing office — previously converted from an aircraft hangar — was in need of additional space for offices and personnel.
To accommodate the need for additional space and an open-air environment, the design team offered a solution that opened the existing space by removing walls and creating an open ceiling comprised of alternating white glass-reinforced gypsum cloud panels over a black backdrop. The design also included the addition of four client rooms.
The existing balcony had limited use due to the Department of Aviation restrictions, so it was updated and enclosed with a tinted glass storefront. The new design emulates the look and feel of a control tower and offers the Sundance traffic control crew a bird’s eye view of the surrounding exterior.
