The Design-Build competition for the Mail Processing Center/Main Post Office in Grand Forks presented a major challenge: to design and build a dignified mail facility within a 210-day completion schedule through a North Dakota winter.
The Korte Company was awarded the contract based upon the design solution, price and the overall ability to meet the schedule.
The design incorporated a pre-engineered building with a standing seam metal roof at the main entrance and the retail section.
The blue metal roof and fascia panels were added to the lower building scale. The result was a high-quality design solution that reflected the image of the post office.
